Our School

Our school’s original badge was created by Florence Trewhela, the founder, and her two daughters, Florence and Ruby Michell, in the 1940s. This artistic creation contains profound symbolism, as they placed the G, for Gabriel, in the center. After several discussions, they decided to place the S and T, for Saint, in a position where they are embraced by the G. Thus, a solid, protective, welcoming, and supportive Gabriel was born. They then added the symbol of knowledge, inserting a lamp, the lamp of wisdom, thus reflecting the learning of our students. That flame, present in the badge, is not an inherited flame but a radically individual fire, which each student must discover with what to light and how to keep alive throughout their lives. Together, the three succeed in conveying the school’s philosophy in the badge: simplicity, simplicity, reflection, and transparency. Over the years, and in order to celebrate our Fourth Graders, this badge has been accompanied by laurels. Because laurels have always symbolized pride.
